Our reputation is based on our highly skilled team and friendly staff. Why go anywhere else?
How We Install Timber Cladding
First, our experts will conduct a complete inspection of the area where you want timber cladding added.
Assuming this is an exterior project, after a thorough cleaning, we will add a waterproof, breathable lining called sarking to the area. This prevents water buildup, mould, and insects while allowing air to pass through and keep the wall behind the cladding dry.
Vertical battens will be added for ventilation and to support the weight of the timber.
The cladding, whether solid engineered bamboo, spotted gum, or other timber products, will be cut to the desired measurements.
Each board is checked for possible damage. Only the highest quality boards will be used for your important project.
We will predrill holes in the cladding to prevent splitting. Proceeding to the installation, we make sure that the end-matched boards are pre-finished for a smooth, uniform look.
Our experts will carefully align and secure each board, allowing a very small gap for the expansion of the wood that naturally occurs with temperature changes.
Our well-seasoned team knows that details mean everything!
We will add flashing around windows and doors, as well as trim pieces so the job has a more polished and finished look.
Last, but not least, our team will add a protective finish to the external cladding to prevent fading of the wood or stain.
Our meticulous process means zero hassles and no mess!
The result is a natural wood that compliments your home and increases its overall value.
Did we mention that we do a complete clean-up afterward?
You don’t have to do anything but sit back and relax!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How much is timber cladding per square metre?
A: This would depend on the type of timber used, but generally speaking, you can expect to pay $3.50-$6.50 per linear metre for pine and $8.50 for spotted gum. Call the timber cladding experts at Freo Carpentry & Maintenance to discuss ideas and get a complimentary quote!
Q: What are the cheapest exterior cladding options?
A: Aluminum or vinyl would be the cheapest option for exterior cladding. If you are interested in timber, tight knot pine would be the least expensive wood option. Many different types of cladding can enhance the look of your home. Call Freo Carpentry & Maintenance today to discuss your options.
Q: What do you put behind timber cladding?
A: Sarking, a vapour-permeable, waterproof, and fire-retardant paper, is placed between the wall of your home and the timber. This ensures that water cannot reach behind the cladding, and air can flow to prevent mould.
Q: How far off the ground should cladding be?
A: If the outside surface is cement or decking, the clearance for timber can be as low as 150 millimetres. If it’s bare earth below the cladding, the clearance should be at least 250 millimetres. Speak to the experts in timber cladding at Freo Carpentry & Maintenance if you have questions about these clearances or any other questions about installing cladding.
